Fictional transformable variable fighter from the Macross Delta science fiction and mecha animated television series.

The VF-1EX is a modern version of the old VF-1 designed exclusively for pilot training purposes.

It is equipped with an advanced fail-safe A.I. autopilot that activates to protect the passenger in situations where the fighter is not being controlled properly. It also has modifications that enable the mecha to be controlled by a pilot equipped with an EX-Gear power suit.

The VF-1EX was designed by Kawamori Shouji for the new show based on his original design from the 80s.
