unsinkable sam
Unsinkable Sam (also known as Oskar or Oscar) was the name of an alleged black and white German ship's cat whose original owner was unknown. He saw service in both the Kriegsmarine and Royal Navy during World War II. He served on board three vessels and miraculously survived the sinking of all three (Bismarck's, then the HMS Cossack's, and finally the HMS Ark Royal's).
After the sinking of HMS Ark Royal he retired from his shipborne career and was first transferred to to the offices of the Governor General in Gibraltar as a mouse-catcher. He then was sent back to the United Kingdom where he lived the rest of his life in a seaman's home in Belfast, Northern Ireland until his natural death in 1955.
Some researchers are skeptical whether or not Sam actually existed.
He is often seen in fanart with Kantai Collection's Bismarck. He also appeared in Z1 Leberecht Maass's holiday damage CG (Danbooru post #2128215).
