The original image (Danbooru post #3815381) gained popularity on a Chinese social media site due to it avoiding deletion despite the site not allowing porn. The image consistently avoided deletion across many posts, including being used as video thumbnails. This caused it to become widespread and many memes and parodies have been made since.
