robot (manabi kangaeru rekishi)

ロボット(学び考える歴史) 例のロボ ノンデリロボ ロボカス 鬼畜ロボ 鬼畜ロbot

A small blue robot with a round head with a antenna on top and a cylindrical body with a question mark on it. It was featured in the middle school history textbook entitled "Manabi Kangaeru Rekishi" / "History to Learn and Think About".

It doesn't have an officially set name and is simply referred to as "Robot". It is has also been known as the Impression-Tweeting Robot or the Textbook Robot.

Its appearance is meant to be that of a very ordinary robot that would be likely to appear in educational media, but and meant to have the trait of "having and amazing memory but not to know much about humans".

In the textbook, the robot repeatedly makes remarks about historical events based on modern values, disregarding the historical context and religious views of the time, which could be taken as provocative. Its non-robotic, uncharacteristically cynical, and brutish behavior has garnered mysterious attention and become a topic of discussion.

Around May 2024, a meme featuring this character spread on X (formerly Twitter) where this robot would make insensitive comments on various people and situations without reading the room, and became a popular joke format. In this meme form, the robot has been called "ノンデリロボ" / "Indelicate Robot", "鬼畜ロボ" / "Brutal Robot", "ロボカス" / "Robo-Trash", or simply "例のロボ" / "That Certain Robot" among other things. In this meme format, the robot typically says a phrase ending in "...ばいいのに" / "It's still fine even if..."
