rebel alliance (star wars)
The Alliance to Restore the Republic, also known as the Rebel Alliance and the Rebellion, is an interstellar faction from the fictional Star Wars universe.
The Rebel Alliance was created by members of different planets throughout the Star Wars galaxy to oppose the tyrannical Galactic Empire and for restoring the ideals of the former Old Republic. The Rebel Alliance eventually evolved into the galactic New Republic (and later the Galactic Alliance according to the old Expanded Universe, now known as Legends).
During the events of the new sequel trilogy of Star Wars films a selected part of the Rebel Alliance was organized by Leia Organa into The Resistance, a small militia supported by the New Republic that is opposed to the evil and powerful First Order.
