A 2011 science fiction novel, and the debut work of American author Ernest Cline.
The story, set in a dystopian 2045, follows teen otaku protagonist Wade Owen Watts on his adventures searching for an easter egg in a worldwide virtual reality MMO video game called "OASIS", the discovery of which could lead him to inherit the late game creator's massive megafortune and total control and ownership of the game.
A film adaptation was released on March 29, 2018 in most countries. It premiered in Japan on April 20, 2018.
