orfevre (racehorse)

オルフェーヴル 金色の暴君

(Name means "Goldsmith" in French.)

Sire:Stay Gold
Grandsire:Sunday Silence
Dam:Oriental Art
Damsire:Mejiro McQueen

Japanese racehorse. Sired by Stay Gold out of Oriental Art.

Orfevre is a chestnut stallion with a prominent white blaze down his face. He also has a white "sock" marking on his left hindleg.

Orfevre is best known for winning the 2011 Japanese Triple Crown and being voted Japanese Horse of the Year for the same year. He accumulated a total of 6 G1 victories. He also placed twice in the prestigious Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, being narrowly defeated twice on successive attempts in 2012 and 2013.

Orfevre has a reputation as a talented but highly temperamental horse, being particularly infamous for savagely bucking off his jockey right after the moment of achieving the Triple Crown, earning him the nickname of "The Golden Tyrant".
