mizura

みずら 角髪

One of Japan's oldest hairstyles, worn by men in the ancient period. It consists of two ponytails, could be long or short, one on either side of the head. These are looped down and back up, each then being secured in place with some sort of wrapping (string, hair tie or hair tubes... ). Mizura was worn differently according to social status.

Mizura may be confused with shuangyaji, but this style is for women & girls, and is often higher up on the head or lower back, being more varying.
