Deafness is a condition that describes the loss of hearing in a person or animal. Deafness can be partial or total, meaning a person may be able to hear some amount of sound, or none at all. Deafness can be present at birth, which is known as congenital deafness, if it develops before a child has learned to speak its known as prelingual deafness. Deafness can also develop later in life.

Tag what you see, not what you know, so this tag is not used to simply tag images of characters who are canonically deaf. Use this tag if the image directly relates to deafness. This tag is used for images wherein it's shown that the subject is deaf.

Types of images where Deaf may be an applicable tag:

• Images wherein the character declares themselves or another to be deaf.
• Showcases of situations wherein a characters deafness may cause awkwardness or some sort of unusual situation.
• Images where characters use sign language or non-verbal communication because of their or anothers deafness.
• Posts wherein a person is using some kind of hearing aid
