A transformable mecha from the Macross 7 Science fiction anime series from the 90s.
The VF-17 Nightmare is an expensive, powerful and fast variable fighter mecha designed for special operations only. It was modified and downgraded into the cheaper VF-171 used years later as main fighter by the N.U.N.S.
It was designed by Kawamori Shouji in the 90s.
