An Essex-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, CV-10 was originally ordered with the assigned name Bonhomme Richard, but was renamed Yorktown while under construction after CV-5 was sunk at the Battle of Midway in 1942. Yorktown was commissioned in 1943 and earned sixteen battle stars from combat service in the Pacific Theater of World War II and the Vietnam War. It was also a recovery vessel for the Apollo 8 space mission, as well as playing a starring role in several feature films, including Tora Tora Tora. Yorktown was decommissioned for the last time in 1970, and is currently a museum ship at Patriot's Point, South Carolina.
