She has short black hair with swept bangs, grey eyes, and small breasts. Her default outfit is shared with her sister Mikuma: a long-sleeved red sailor shirt with a dark red sailor collar, brown shorts, black kneehighs, and black lace-up boots.
Her rigging consists of her real-life funnel and foremast to her back, four (or three at kai) 20.3 cm twin gun mounts, and a flight deck at kai form. She gains two radar sets at kai form as well.
She is a frank, upbeat, energetic, and tomboyish girl. Due to having collided three times in her historic service, she's commonly portrayed as quite clumsy, and too eager to watch where she's going. Collisions with her sister-ship Mikuma are most commonly portrayed. Because of her boyish looks, she is often portrayed as the target of rumors of being a boy, or outright portrayed as one.
