Refers to the real-life Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer Akizuki. Not to be confused with the later Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer DD-115.
The lead ship/name ship of her class of anti-air destroyers (designated Type B Destroyers to differentiate from the Asashio/Kagerou/Yuugumo-class general-purpose DD Type A), she was launched on 2 July 1941 and commissioned on 11 June 1942. She saw service in Guadalcanal and Philippine Sea before being sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf on 25 October 1944.
